Annual Party 2015: Preparing for the big surprise/ Small steps towards the big night

- Make your moves a little bit more sexy and try to feel it a little more, says Virginia Zhang. In just two hours, four business professionals with no dance experience, are going to learn how to dance Salsa in order to perform during the Annual Party of  BI- Fudan MBA program.

Normally Virginia is a key account manager at SAS office in Beijing and BI-Fudan MBA Student. But today she acts as a very disciplined dance teacher with the hard, but not impossible, task to teach a whole Salsa dance routine to people who never have danced on a stage before.

Just for fun

- They are doing a great job. I am impressed, says Virginia, who danced as a little girl and now does Salsa in Beijing. With shiny red dancing shoes she is counting and instructing and giving moral support to her temporary students.

- It is hard, but even if it is a great challenge, we just do it for fun. I have filmed the dance routine with my mobile, and will have to practice every night at home, says James Wang of MBA Class 1.

Together with Chloe Zhi( class 16), Betty Zhong ( class 22)  and Eric  Shen ( class 19 )who will have a busy week of dancing Salsa in front of the mirror after work.

- I am going to be a little bit nervous and embarrassed on stage, but I couldnot say no when asked to do this, says Betty Zhong.

Personal engagement

The person who asks people to perform at the Annual Party is Paul Yang, who graduated in 2007. His phone calls non -stop during the rehearsal.

- I have the overall responsibility to find and gather 54 performers and make them create bands, dances, model-shows, plays and other performances. Believe me, it is a lot of co-ordination, phone calls and WeChat messages. But this is important to everybody. Busy business managers fly to Shanghai from the other cities in China and from abroad in order to be a part of this. People “sacrifice” valuable time, says Paul Yang.

A special BI- Fudan family

- He believes the effort and willingness illustrates the uniqueness of the BI-Fudan MBA program.

- We are one of the earliest joint venture programs and we are building close personal relationship even if we originally are just fellow students. Doing a big show like this is actually very intimate and emotional. You have to show new and different sides of yourself, he says.

- Is he nervous?

- Not at all. These are professional people who do not take themselves seriously. It will be a lot of fun and a big surprise, he says with a secret smile.
