Business Communication
----“from the west to the east”
On Saturday evening, 3rd February 2012, the students from BI-Fudan MBA Program had a lecture about ‘Business communication’ in Starr Building. It was organized by Industries Department of Join&Share----the student union of BI-Fudan MBA. Marc Chen, who is alumni from class 11, delivered this topic.
At the beginning, Executive Director of BI-Fudan MBA, Prof. Xu Huizhong made a welcome speech: ‘The students who had a chance to study here can not only gain in-depth management knowledge, but also friendship and future opportunities.’ He pointed out the program is highly identified as a cultural bridge, students from around the world bring their own unique culture together, how to understand the cultural differences became an interesting topic. The lecture was organized on this concern.
The lecture consisted of four parts, Cross Cultural Communication & Leadership, Strategic Presentation Skills, Writing for Business, Market segments and Current Trends in China.
Marc himself is a good example of cultural communication. He was born in a multicultural family. His father is a Shanghainese, his mother is from England, he lived in Hongkong before 5 years old and moved to England afterwards, then back to Shanghai and married with a Shanghai girl eight years ago. Brought up in this multicultural environment, Marc can speak English, French, also Shanghainese and Cantonese. In this part, Marc found lots of vivid examples to illustrate that what is the successful cross-culture communication and what should people care about when they do business with people from another cultures.
Marc has more than 20 year background in training and business consultant experience. He also talked about strategic presentation skills. “What is the aim? What is the title? Who am I speaking to?” These are three questions people should ask themselves before they start to prepare the presentation.
These kind of practical topics are warmly welcomed by BI-Fudan MBA students. The speaker and audience had a very positive interaction during the lecture. After the speech, they kindly asked Marc if he can share the material PPT file, “because I think some of the content in this speech is pretty useful”.
