Professor Lu Xiongwen, Dean of Fudan University School of Management (FDSM), recently shared his observations on entrepreneurship in the scientific and technological innovation field.
He pointed out that now there are mainly two groups of entrepreneurs: scientists/engineers and professional managers/investors. Though not experts of the core technology, the latter often have a deep understanding on the prospect of its application and potential business model, and resource integration is their strong suit.
Professor Lu believes that the key factors for an entrepreneur to succeed include the ability of continuous learning, respect for science and an open mind, as well as a thorough understanding of risks.
FDSM has been taking scientific and technological innovation as its development direction, and has carried out a series of researches on management of sci-tech innovation projects.
Professor Lu encourages the Chinese young entrepreneurs to embrace the precious opportunities of this era, and fuel their entrepreneurship with both technological innovation and business innovation. “Sci-tech innovation has not only become a keynote of the evolution of this era,” Professor Lu emphasizes, “but will also be the theme of the future social and economic development in China.”
