Professor Xu Zhengchuan from Fudan University School of Management shared his insights on the metaverse in his interview with the magazine Business Management Review. According to Professor Xu, healthy, continual existence of the metaverse requires six elements:
1. The root: digital identity, which relies on blockchain technology to ensure independence.
2. The portal: technologies like VR and AR, which will help us enter the metaverse.
3. The path: digital twin technology, internet of things, artificial intelligence, machine learning, software analysis and other technologies, which are essential for realizing the interactive closed loop between the physical world and the metaverse.
4. The cloud: digital contents. Real-time collaborative simulation platforms will allow writers, designers and artists to break boundaries and create in real-time via the cloud.
5. The ocean: a digital economic system based on blockchain technology, so that the metaverse can continue to develop.
6. The treasure: digital assets. Through NFT digital token technology, valuable digital products, such as digital artworks, will become the highlight of metaverse digital asset investment and stimulate the development of the digital economy.
Professor Xu emphasized that unlike online video games, the metaverse will break the boundary between the virtual and the physical, unleash our creativity and improve the efficiency of the physical world. Once the three key features of the metaverse experience—interactive, immersive, and collaborative—are realized, our interactions with the world will be more diversified and more profound.
