Strategies for Self-development of Marketers

Curiosity, learning ability, empathy, perception, responsibility, and action are all indispensable for a great marketer. Former CMO of Coca-Cola Greater China and South Korea, Joanna Lu, Fudan MBA alumnus of the 1999 class, has just joined Bain & Company as an expert partner in its global Customer & Marketing Excellence practice. She shared 7 strategies proved to be applicable during her self-development:

1.    Attitude is essential: Keep in mind the original inspiration we harbored when we first became a marketer. Do things that we will be proud of tomorrow.

2.    Be a keen observer: Cultivate our instinct in marketing and the industry. Quickly grasp the essence of problems and make reponse.

3.    Diligent in learning: The best marketers are often avid readers.

4.    Strong logical thinking: Marketers must train themselves to see the bigger picture.

5.    Dare to try: Have the courage to learn by doing so as to find out what works and what is most effective in the ever-changing market.

6.    Make a habit of reviewing regularly: Reviewing is indispensable to turn our experience into systematic knowledge.

7.    Learn from mistakes: Embrace frustrations as a way to accelerate our personal growth.
