How do Online Platforms Avoid the Tragedy of the Commons

In the context of digital society and economy, products and services of many online platforms are already part of infrastructure resources in nature. Therefore, Professor Bao Yongjian from Fudan University School of Management advises that online platforms can explore in the following directions so as to avoid the tragedy of the commons:

1.Design/supply non-market supplies, such as big data about the environment;

2.Design/supply products and services related to merit goods, such as activities related to physical fitness and culture;

3.Design/supply activities to enhance social capital, like those of the community organizations and guilds;

4.Large-scale online platforms can develop the social products that are only for collective use, such as digital trust and platforms for big data sharing;

5.Explore a mechanism apart from the market model or government supply model.
