In a live class from Fudan University School of Management, two alumni Ding Haiying, Director of Spencer Stuart, and Ding Hui, President of IKEA China, shared their observation concerning career development, which may be especially meaningful for those forced to find a new job under the impact of the epidemic.
Ding Haiying pointed out that expectations for senior executives have changed in many ways. Experience, which was once the core competence, may now be seen as a barrier for innovation. Cross-border skills often draw more attentions. Leaders need to change their roles from the decider to someone who inspires everyone to brainstorm and go through the trial and error.
Ding Hui advised those faced with career choices to ask themselves "who am I", "what do I want" and believe “impossible is nothing”. We must keep self-motivated, set goals, maintain commitment to them and always keep learning.
