MIT Lecture | Timeless Lessons from Gates, Grove and Jobs

Professor Cusumano, the Sloan Management Review Distinguished Professor of Management at MIT Sloan School of Management, was invited to Fudan where he gave lectures to 2017 Fudan IMBA students. This time, he shared his opinion on business strategy implementation. Taking the cases of Bill Gates, Andy Grove and Steve Jobs, Prof. Cusumano told the stories of how these three businessmen started and developed their businesses.

Three Key Factors in Efficient Action-taking 

Professor Cusumano summed up three key factors in efficient action taking: clear vision, quick action, and focusing on near term plans. 

 

3 Major Strategies SMEs Need to Know to Compete in a Platform Market

Professor Cusumano introduced three types of competing strategies small and medium sized companies can apply in what we call platform market. Here the professor cited more cases including those of Apple and Xiaomi, a Chinese company that had developed fast in the past few years.

As one of the two faculty members from MIT who first started the IMBA program, Professor Cusumano has witnessed 22 years of tremendous progress the program has made. “The program was a very small one at the beginning, but after two decades, it has become world-class business education. As to Fudan IMBA students, they are very internationalized and some of them are very competitive and sharp.”
