iLab Workshop VII, the last workshop session, was held on 17th June, 2016, at the Management School of Fudan University. Acted as the principal in BCG Greater China, Josh Ding shared his insights and experiences associated with “strategic analysis” during the two and half hour speech. As one of the prerequisites that every business leader should be equipped with, the skill to analyze strategically plays an important role in solving uncertainties and difficulties faced in companies.
“Problem solving is not only a capability to deal with complexity in workplace, but also a fundamental requirement for us to cope with various situations in daily life.” Mr. Ding started his sharing after a brief introduction about himself.
According to Mr. Ding, to achieve the optimal goal in a more efficient and scientific way, we can conduct strategic analysis via four simple steps: defining the real problem, generating and structuring hypotheses, analyzing and synthesizing, and then getting to the “so what” part.
This methodology could be used as a common approach to tap the issues met in a project, but building-up of the sense for critical thinking and logical analysis demands considerable experiences accumulated from challenge overcoming, taking into account of all the unexpected factors stemmed from each case.
The insights and knowledge furnished by the speaker helped adjust and modify students’ traditional way towards tackling a tough situation, which would be beneficial for optimizing the overall performance and dealing with complexities in different projects.
