2015 iLab Workshop I – Learn to Ask
Students always pay full attention on the content of learning, technical or knowledge, while neglecting the way of how to learn. The first lecture of iLab Workshop on Nov 10th led the students from 2015 IMBA program to consider a basic but profound topic: how to ask the right questions.

The lecture room was completely filled with passionate audience, not only because of the attractive theme, but also for the famous lecturer, Dr. Deqiang Zou, the assistant professor of marketing at School of Management, Fudan University. His research involves both consumer behavior and empirical model issues on marketing discipline. He also has very sophisticated teaching skills, and is very good at using practical examples to encourage deep thinking. Through the discussion on whether the door was open on Saturday before Labor Day, why the convenience store laid beer close to diaper in light of increasing the sales revenue, and the reason of different layouts in IKEA and Red–Star Dragon, students were guided to answer and propose questions during the process and were deeply impressed by the real meaning of “right question”. Moreover, Dr. ZOU proposed a four-step formula –conceptualization, categorization, operationalization, and association– to give a brief introduction on online WOM (word-of -mouth) and conduct some analysis from TED talks.

Students responded with great enthusiasm and passion. They raised various questions, both relevant and diagnostic. They all spoke highly of Dr. ZOU’s profession and passion.
