Final Review for 2015 Fudan-MIT China Lab Projects

With the successful conclusion of Origin team’s final presentation to the client, all five teams of the 2015 Fudan-MIT China Lab Program delivered their research findings, analyses, and recommendations to the sponsor companies during the second week of May. It had been almost four months since the project launched in January, during the four months, Fudan teams worked closely with their MIT peers to conduct research, analyze data, discuss alternatives, formulate strategies, and finalize the recommendations. The Fudan and MIT teams also visited each other’s universities, both teams have experienced different cultures and practices through working on-site, and forged bonding among team members. The teams were very glad to see their hard working had been appreciated by client companies and would contribute to companies’ development and growth. They also deepened their understanding of the “Action Learning” concept by participation for business consulting projects in a real business environment.
Chart Team
On May 15, the final presentation of the Chart project was successfully delivered at Chart’s Changzhou office, its regional headquarters. The Fudan team, joined by the MIT team through teleconference, presented the final report to Chart executives. Professor Tzeng who is Fudan’s faculty mentor has participated in this presentation in Changzhou, while MIT’s faculty mentor Professor Grant dialed in from Cambridge, Massachusetts, the U.S.
The team reported their findings in the LNG marine application market, including macro environment, products, markets, and competitors. Analyses of several representative cases were also included. Based on research findings and analyses, the team formulated a market entry strategy and made their specific recommendations to Chart.
Chart executives presented at the meeting were satisfied with the final presentation and glad to see the team’s findings, analyses, and strategic recommendations had met or exceeded their expectations. The China Lab team’s efforts not only impressed them, but also reaffirmed their previous findings in this segment and further increased their interest and confidence in entering into this market.
During the past five months, the China Lab team had been working consistently to conduct researches and formulate strategies. It brought the whole team a sense of accomplishment that the client company was satisfied with the work.

Keteng Team
From January 23, 2015 of the first conference call to the final presentation on May 15, the Keteng project worked together with MIT Sloan School of Management closely through onsite research, remote analysis and visiting. Finally, the CEO of Keteng expressed his satisfaction with the final result.
In the China Lab week, Keteng team visited MIT Sloan School of Management and found a warm welcome from both the professors and students there. MIT hosted a lot of activities for the team,   including MIT tour, welcome luncheon, baseball game of Boston Red Sox, class visit, poster session and etc., the colorful activities have left a wonderful impression to the Fudan team members.
In addition, all the students were obsessed by the city of Boston. It is one of the oldest cities in the U.S., and Boston is also famous for its marathon. The Fudan team visited Boston right after the marathon week and they still had the opportunity to see banners and advertisement around Copley Square.

VIPABC
On April 26, 2015, the Fudan team of VIPABC project boarded on the flight to MIT. On arrival, the team met with the other two members from MIT Sloan School of Management, Sean and Min, and had a seminar with their project mentor, Professor Grant. The team members were also guided to MIT campus and Harvard campus. The cultures of elite universities and atmosphere of learning really impressed the team deeply.
After 10-day short visit, the VIPABC team went back to Shanghai. They adjusted work distribution immediately and started working for the final presentation together with the MIT teammates. In the end, they completed the project and successfully delivered the final report.
In retrospect, all of the three team members from Fudan had a lot to share in respect of group coordination, foundation of theoretical analytical system and report preparation which all contributed to the continuous improvement of the final report. The VIPABC team indicated that all of them really appreciated this great opportunity and they wished a great success for Fudan-MIT China Lab project.

Chia Tai Team
The final presentation of the Chia Tai Project was held on May 14, 2015. The attendees were Doctor He and Mora from Chia Tai Group, Professor Tzeng and the team from School of Management, Fudan University.
After the mid-term presentation, Chia Tai team made the reflection on their previous work. In order to increase the quality of their project, the team deepened their research by communicating more often with the client company, which expanding the depth of the topics as per their client’s requirements. Thereafter, the team went to MIT Sloan School of Management to experience the education and culture in MIT. Under the guidance of Professor Tzeng, Chia Tai group made great efforts to finalize the report and provided recommendations that fit client company’s strategy. After the presentation, executives from Chia Tai Group and Fudan team had a further discussion, ending up the project with a Win-Win situation.

Origin Team
On May 15, 2015, the Fudan team of the Origin project submitted the final report. It took 6 months to complete the project and the whole process included team selection, team building, interviews, analyzing and presentations. Eric, Victoria and Livia from Fudan University presented the final report to the client company. Their one-hour presentation covered all topics of the project, and the team analyzed the methods of consultation, the final results and suggestions regarding implementation of the recommendations. Mr. An, the Strategic Manager from Origin, expressed his satisfaction and appreciation with the final report.
The success of the final report soundly concluded the 2015 Fudan-MIT China Lab projects. Both Fudan and MIT students have benefited a lot from the hard working. MIT students learned more about Chinese private companies and Chinese market in general by visiting Shanghai in person. The benefits of the collaboration between Fudan and MIT were mutual. The one-week trip to the US has broadened Fudan students’ horizons and strengthened multicultural communications.
