On April 15th and 16th , Prof. Neal Hartman ,the faculty from MIT gave speech to 2012 IMBA students at FDSM. Students closely communicated with professor Hartman, who has lectured on cross-cultural, leadership and organizational communication. He comes to teach MBA of Tsinghua and Fudan regularly every semester. Last week, he has delivered the lecture of the group decision-making, team roles and leading effective teams with three interesting games.
Interpersonal Attitude Survey is a directing test of the role of the individual. It indicates that the persons are divided into analyst, innovator, producer and diplomat. We’ll know who we are in the interpersonal attitude. It could be data focus, creative focus, results focus or people focus.
Lost at Sea is a way to see how an individual problem solution can be optimized by the group discussion. Many of the teams found that an effective communication would contribute to a better score. The Belbin Model has brought the ideas that the human behavior in decision-making groups is not random. A team role is simply “a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way”. Most people have 2 or 3 preferred roles out of 8 distinct roles. For example, one who is the producer style in the interpersonal attitude survey tends to have preferred team roles of Implementer and Shaper.
Prof. Hartman has offered a way of understanding ourselves more specifically in individual role, group decision making and team roles. These ideas well used by the consulting firm and HR managers are fairly beneficial in our future career development. The professors from MIT have their own different styles of teaching that are open and vitality. During the following study, the IMBA students will have more fantastic and fascinating courses of business knowledge in Fudan-MIT program.
