主讲人简介：The paper develops new valuation to value funds provided by saving investors from the expectation that the value of the funds shall grow above or at least at the same rate of inflation in the real goods market. This value expected by investors is regarded as the basic economic value of funds since it retains the constant purchasing power of money over time. The value perceived by the market in excess of the basic economic value is defined as value creation that consists of two basic elements: investment returns and capital gains. With the new valuation, we found that the UK life insurance industry lost its value by £102 billion relative to the basic economic value in 2008. It is evident that the identified value creation is related to life insurers for their business performance and strategies, in particular, their risk-taking attitudes in setting their portfolio of investment.
