Abstract: Drawing on the dynamic capabilities perspective from the strategic management literature and applying it as a theoretical lens to the examination of MNC subsidiary innovation, this conceptual paper proposes a framework that a) differentiates between generative, sourcing and integrative capabilities, b) proposes the new construct of dynamic knowledge capability and c) establishes direct and non-direct links between dynamic knowledge capability and subsidiary innovation. The paper develops a set of theoretical propositions and discusses research and managerial contributions and implications as well as limitations and future research.
Dr. Wu Zhan is currently an assistant professor in international business at The University of Sydney Business School and visiting assistant professor of Fudan Management School. He earned his PhD degree from Nanyang Business School in Singapore. Due to his teaching excellence, he has earned numerous teaching awards at Sydney Business School. His main research interests are dynamic capabilities, MNC innovation strategy, and competitive dynamics between foreign and local rivals in emerging and transition economies. So far, he has published papers in reputable journals such as Journal of World Business, Management International Review, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, etc. Moreover, he has several papers under review at top journals such as Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Services Marketing. In addition, he has presented a large number of papers at top conferences like AOM, AIB, and AMA.
